Lateness

Finally made it through the semester, but am running smack dab into the holidays. Spent the last several days in various states of vegetation: sleep, couch potato, zombie.

I am finding it a little hard to get a few things accomplished, like sending out holiday cards and gifts to family.

If you are expecting a card from me...it may show up late.

Family packages will show up sometime after Christmas.

Starting to get back into life little by little.

And the moral of the story, men...

...is that if you pretend you think women are people, and sometimes toss them flowers or a love song, the stupid bitches'll buy it and not murder you in the night like you probably deserve.

Which is to say, I finally circumvented the bad menu on Hercules and the Amazon Women, aka, "Hercules Teaches an Entire Village to be Nice Guys™" and watched it. I knew it was bad, but OH MAN had I forgotten how bad. Not even Iolaus dying in Herc's arms (spoiler: he gets better) or Lucy Lawless as not!Xena, or a village of scantily clad Amazons dancing erotically before their sex raid on the men's village can really make up for just how awful this is. (Okay, possibly that last bit is part of how awful this is, but I am allowed to be shallow.)

Edit of baaaaby dragons, because another black egg has hatched out into an alt, and I have a Christmas egg: Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

Dark Tales of Randamor the Recluse - Book I: The Invisible Chains (M/M Slash)

Title: Dark Tales of Randamor the Recluse - Book I: The Invisible Chains
Author: Eurypon
Format: Original - Novel
Length: 190 000 (November 14, 2009)
Status
: WIP
Rating: M - NC-17
Warnings: Violence, incest, rape, non-con, domination may all occur in varying degrees
Link: aarinfantasy and fictionpress
Summary: (by the author) A long and brooding chronicle with bitterness, savage tribes, bloody battles and crowns lost and gained. About friendship in arms, love in bonds, devotion against all odds and undeserved tenderness. M/M Slash

Review: The story is set in a kind of Middle Ages. Although very recognizable, there are some differences with our actual Middle Ages. Some regions in this world have more a feel of ancient Greece.

The kingdom of Ximerion is under threat of an attack on both its southern and northern border. The danger coming from the north is far less serious and the high king sends his youngest sons to the Northern Marches, under the guidance of an old and trusted friend, both to handle the situation and to safeguard them from the far more serious situation in the south.

Almost immediately strife breaks out between the half brothers, although they also feel attracted to each other... though this attraction takes some strange forms.

Like the author states in the summary it is a long and brooding tale. It requires some investment of the reader, especially in the beginning. Those who get past the first three or four chapters are well rewarded however.

Out of the Introduction-Warning by the author:

This will be a long and brooding chronicle with bitterness and savage tribes and bloody battles and crowns lost and gained. It will tell about foul betrayal and fighting in desperate situations. About friendship in arms and love in bonds. About devotion against all odds and undeserved tenderness. About reversal of fortunes and growth in adversity.

Be warned: there will be scenes of domination and rape, but never random or unexplained. Of course there will be smut. There will also be incest. The graphic description of armed conflict and the sacking of villages and cities may not be to everybody's taste. Characters you might have grown to love will die and their death will not always be an easy one.

It is doubtful that at the end of the story there will be anybody left who is totally innocent.

More surreal than Renee O'Connor playing Deianeira

Was the fact that selecting "Hercules and the Amazon Women" brought up "Hercules and the Lost City" again. Great menu programming there, guys.

Also, I must stop drinking the coconut rum, because if I don't, ALL THE RUM WILL BE GONE. *tear*

My ears hurt. Stupid cold weather. *sulk*

YESSSS. At just under 5,000 words, the final rough draft thing is done. PLENTY OF TIME FOR ME TO DECIDE IT IS A WORD DOCUMENT FULL OF FAIL. :D

Also, it's late, but check out my new icon! SQUALL YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY FILLED WITH CHRISTMAS GLEE.

Sick.

Just a cold but it's the kind that lands me in bed off and on for most of the day. I'm just so tired. In between playing not-mindless-enough games on one of my pet sites because there's a daily play limit which doesn't roll over and I want the money. I have to think more than I do foraging but a) time, b) this is the busiest time of day for foraging, and c) they just released a new craftable Plush so everyone's madly trying to get all the components for it. If I'm awake tonight I'll have a go then.

DETERMINATION IS KEY, MY FRIENDS

OKAY. I'm home from work. I'm off tomorrow. I have 28 hours to finish my Yuletide fic, throw it at [livejournal.com profile] unactive for beta-ing, and post it.

I CAN DO THIS.

Umm

I'm going to hell if I want someone to write me Gummi Bear slash, right? Yeah, thought so.

an inspirational video

Found this via the Wannasmile site and had to share. For me, this was a massive clue-by-four.

Snow and exorcists

Shotgun post!

First of all, it kinda snowed a bit here. I WAS going to go into work for a teeny bit yesterday, but I stood out there for 35 minutes, while two busses went the opposite direction and none came my way. I figured that it was a sign from the gods and went back home. Where I've spent the weekend playing Plants vs. Zombies (now half-price! Popcap's having a half-price sale, so if you've ever wanted Plants vs. Zombies--and it is incredibly cute and fun and replayable--or Zuma or any of their other games, now's the time to get them), making Ronnie's Cure-All Chocolate Loaf Cake, trying to work on my Yuletide story, taking pictures of snow, and generally not doing a whole lot!

Today has mostly been occupied by reading Ao no Exorcist. New manga! I highly recommend it!

Premise! - Twin brothers + demons + exorcist school + characters with hidden loyalties = fun!
It's a school-based story, eventually, but it's been very character-based in the first half-dozen chapters or so. I found the first chapter to be pretty emotionally intense, really. Kinda gory, with special powers and of course the main character has an uber-powerful ace in the hole, but his brother isn't as weak as he seems at first, either. They've done a nice job of breaking the mold just a bit on the usual character stereotypes, and, like usual, the side characters (especially the school officials and teachers) are some of the more interesting personalities. If you liked D.Gray-Man or Soul Eater (granted, two things I haven't kept up with, but they leapt to mind when I read this), you might like this?

...oh man, I really, really need to finish my Yuletide story. ;_;

I think the scratch got wet in the last rain

The bin it's stored in is starting to smell a bit like bourbon. *debates building a still instead of feeding the quail and cottontails*

In related news, coconut rum is sweet and tricksy, especially in pineapple juice.

I am two slipper-socks away from the six pair Boss#1 wanted for Christmas baskets. Guess what I'm doing today? (In the end there will be MONEY, so.)

Tonight we dine in HELL

Due to a tragic ordering fail at work, my cats are eating Friskies until at least Monday. They inform me this is not what they signed up for. But at least they won't eat me in my sleep.

It's journal cleaning time

Once again I've fallen so far behind in my replies to comments (and posts, and prompts, and...) that I feel the need to warn folks that you may be getting replies to VERY VERY OLD (bordering on ancient) comments (or posts, or prompts, or...) - and I am very very sorry for this. The Year of the Ox (which isn't quite over yet, but I'm hoping he leaves quietly) has been extremely harsh on my family, and I'm just getting over a two-year-long (or longer, I'm really not sure when it started) depressive episode that stole my creativity along with any sense of time. I want to clean up my mailbox before 2010, or at least before the Year of the Tiger; if I start *now*, maybe I'll make it, right? So, old replies, with my apologies in advance for taking so damn long.

Also, I'll be going back to my old post about who-posts-where, and adjusting my LJ flist, IJ flist, and DWircle accordingly. If you find yourself booted in error please let me know!

And now the awkward part - there are some people I've been following with whom I really have nothing in common besides a journaling service. Those few will be de-added, along with any journals that haven't been updated in a year. (This does NOT apply to my IJ and DW fic journals! The LJ fic journal...may be decommissioned, or may just not be updated; I don't want to provide content for LJ, what with all the stunts they've pulled.) Again, if you find yourself booted and think you should have stayed, let me know: I can't guarantee that I won't make any mistakes; this past year has reminded me in no uncertain terms that I'm only human.

Peace to all, and to all a good night.

MEH

I am completely and utterly jealous of everyone who got snow. All we got was rain, rain, and more rain. :|

Also, I don't really have any 'meh' icons. I mean, the Spock icon is way too sad. As is the Laguna/Raine one. Wall-E is too contemplative. Zuko/Mai is kind of disappointed/angry, but definitely not 'MEH' worthy. I have 48 more icon slots though, so I think I'm going to have to go icon hunting!

...yeah, I couldn't decide what icon to use for this post. XD

My collection of alt-black dragons keeps growing

Two new alt babies, and two more black eggs to hatch out: Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

[info]dragovianknight

It really stands out

After watching two seasons back to back of SPN, it really stood out how in the pilot for The Flash, PoC could be thugs...AND cops...AND scientists...AND reporters...AND in random crowd scenes. And the black police chief was not one of the cops who got killed! (Alas, he also didn't return after the pilot; we got Lt. Garfield instead.) But, basically, a fictional city based on DC Comics (not exactly a bastion of diversity, after all) was cast with more diversity than modern SPN America.

Of course, nobody's done it as well as Static Shock, which has pretty much been the only show EVER where the world on TV looked like the world around me. Minus the metahumans, I mean.

I love it that my last posted entry contains the words "breaking hiatus"

To those of you that were concerned... )

[info]nanthimus

Far enough, far enough, isn't far enough

So I broke 1,000 words in my Yuletide fic. \o/ This pleases me greatly! I have (most of) a beginning and (most of) an end - all I need is a middle. THE HARD PART. :|

I was weak and bought paid time on DW. Heeeeey, it expired and my icons went back to 15. I WAS SAD. :(

It is officially the 19th! Which means Christmas isn't far away. Which means January isn't far away. AND THEN THE HOLIDAY SEASON WILL BE BEHIND US. :D

I can't complain though, since I actually kind of like Christmas. I mean, not for all that sentimental crap, but because I get presents and presents fill me with glee. I AM THE REASON CHRISTMAS LOST IT'S TRUE ~MEANING~. XD

I'm borrowing Crisis Core from someone. I have been told I will cry. I ALREADY KNEW THAT OKAY. :(

...

I really like how every paragraph ends in capslock and an emoticon. YEAH. \o/

Netflix is describing a different SPN season 4 than I watched

...but I kind of want to see their version.

I quote from the sleeve of the DVD (bolding mine):

"Brothers Sam and Dean roam the earth in search of demons in the fourth season of this hair-raising hit show. Sam searches for a way to save Dean from the bargain he made -- his soul in exchange for Sam's life. And as the war against the demons draws near, the brothers continue to investigate paranormal events as they confront their roles as saviors of mankind. Rachel Pattee and Alona Tal co-star."

A season four with Lilith and Jo co-starring, and no Castiel? No Sammy-going-darkside crap? I AM SO THERE! Where can I get THIS version of the show?
